Questions people ask
What is Quran TV?
Quran TV (القرآن الكريم) is a free app by IT4DS that shows the whole Mushaf on your TV and phone, with recitations by more than 240 reciters, Tafsir al-Muyassar and translations of the meanings, and prayer times with the adhan. It is made for the big screen: clear text you can read from across the room, controlled with the remote or with your phone.
What is the best Quran app for a smart TV?
Quran TV by IT4DS is made for the TV first, not a phone app stretched to fit: the Mushaf as a two-page spread like a printed copy, the ayah lighting up with the reciter’s voice, the phone working as a remote that sends ayahs to the screen, and the adhan at prayer time. It is free with no ads or subscriptions, and runs on LG, Samsung and Android TV.
Is the app free?
Yes, completely: no ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases and no account. It is a sadaqah jariyah, an ongoing charity.
Which TVs and devices does it run on?
LG (webOS) and Samsung (Tizen) TVs from 2016 models on, Android TV and Google TV devices, and Android phones. The iPhone version is coming soon.
How do I connect my phone to the TV?
Open the app on both, then tap the screen button in the phone app. On the same network the TV appears and you pick it with one tap; otherwise type the six-digit code shown on the TV. Your phone then works as a remote and sends ayahs, pages and recitations to the screen.
Does it work without internet?
Mostly, yes: the Mushaf, tafsir, translations, riwayat and prayer times are all inside the app and work offline. Recitations stream from the internet, and you can save them on your phone and Android TV to listen offline.
How many reciters are there, and which riwayat?
More than 240 reciters, including al-Husary, AbdulBaset, al-Minshawi, al-Tablawi, Alafasy and many more, with Egyptian reciters first. The riwayat are Hafs and Shu’bah from Asim, Warsh and Qalun from Nafi’, al-Duri and al-Susi from Abu Amr, and al-Bazzi from Ibn Kathir.
Does it alert me for prayer when the app is closed?
Yes. On LG and Samsung TVs and on the phone the alert arrives at prayer time even when the app is closed, and you can hear the full adhan by the muezzin of the Haram in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque, or great Egyptian muezzins.
Does the app collect my data?
It collects no personal data and needs no account. It only sends anonymous usage statistics (such as the most listened surahs) to improve the app, and you can turn them off in Settings.
This app is completely free, with no ads and no subscriptions. We hope it is a sadaqah jariyah, an ongoing charity. May Allah accept it and make it of benefit.
